Online video platforms allow us to easily share live and recorded video content with others. But how will you know which one is the right one for your content? Which platform meets the accessibility needs for students who get accommodations for disabilities?

This page covers the most common online video platforms used by UNCG faculty and supported by the UNCG ITS department. Review what each platform can and can’t do to help match your video content with the appropriate platform for your needs.

CANVAS STUDIO

  • Best for any size group of faculty and students
  • Primary Function: asynchronous video learning and collaborative discussion with its easy video maker, engaging content, and video feedback

Canvas Studio can be used for:

Canvas Studio CANNOT be used for:

  • Best for groups of up to 10 faculty, staff, and students
  • Primary Function: video conference-calling platform designed to link remote groups together for real-time interaction

Google Meet can be used for:

  • Primary Function: lecture capture software that allows users to include video, audio, screen capture, labs, and slides into a recording

Panopto can be used for:

  • Private Chat (limited – chat with instructor only)
  • Screen Sharing
  • Video Conferencing
  • Live Webcast (limited – has a 30 second delay)
  • Record and Playback
  • Lecture Capture

  • Smart Search

Panopto CANNOT be used for:

  • Student Accounts
  • Real Time Chat
  • Two-Way Audio & video
